Description

The Smart Blind Stick is a device designed to aid visually impaired individuals by combining obstacle detection, location tracking, and emergency communication. It uses sensors and modules connected to Arduino Uno boards to detect obstacles, provide audio feedback, and send SMS alerts with the user’s location when needed.

Components:

  1. 2 x Arduino Uno – Microcontroller units for processing and control.
  2. 4 x Ultrasonic Sensors – Used for obstacle detection in different directions.
  3. Water Sensor – Detects wet surfaces or water bodies.
  4. 16 x 2 LCD Display – Displays status messages and alerts.
  5. Potentiometer – Adjusts settings such as sensitivity or volume.
  6. GSM Module – Sends SMS notifications for emergency alerts.
  7. 5V Voltage Regulator – Ensures stable power supply for components.
  8. DC Jack – Allows connection to external power sources.
  9. 10k Ohm Resistor – Used for circuit stabilization.
  10. GPS Module – Provides the user’s current location for communication.
  11. DF Player Mini – Plays audio feedback for user guidance.
  12. 4 x Relays – Controls various circuits such as activating alarms or notifications.
  13. Buzzer – Alerts the user to nearby obstacles or emergencies.
  14. 5W Speaker – Provides sound output for audio notifications.
  15. 12V DC Supply – Powers the system.
  16. Switch to send SMS – Manual switch for sending SMS in case of an emergency.

Working: The stick is equipped with ultrasonic sensors that continuously scan for nearby obstacles, alerting the user with sound cues from the buzzer and speaker. The GPS module tracks the user’s location, while the GSM module can send emergency SMS alerts when triggered by the user pressing the dedicated switch. The potentiometer can adjust volume levels for audio feedback. The water sensor identifies wet surfaces and warns the user accordingly. The system is powered by a 12V DC supply, regulated for stable operation.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced Mobility: Assists visually impaired individuals in navigating their surroundings safely.
  • Obstacle Detection: Alerts users to obstacles in real-time, reducing the risk of accidents.
  • Emergency Communication: Sends location-specific SMS alerts to designated contacts for immediate assistance.
  • Audio Guidance: Provides feedback through speakers and a DF Player Mini for clear auditory instructions.
  • Weather Awareness: Water sensor helps avoid slippery or dangerous surfaces.
  • Reliable Power: The 12V DC supply with a voltage regulator ensures consistent performance.
