Description

The Sensor-Based Child Safety School Bus is an innovative system designed to ensure student safety by monitoring onboard presence and alerting drivers or supervisors. Using IR sensors, LED indicators, buzzers, and an LCD display, the system provides real-time status updates, reducing the risk of leaving children unattended.

Components:

  1. Arduino UNO
    • Microcontroller that serves as the core for processing sensor data and controlling outputs.
  2. LCD Display (16×2)
    • Displays real-time alerts and status information, such as the number of children onboard.
  3. IR Sensor
    • Detects the presence of children inside the bus by identifying motion or heat signatures.
  4. LED Light
    • Provides visual indicators for the system’s status (e.g., green for safe, red for alert).
  5. Buzzer
    • Emits sound alerts to notify the driver or caretaker about detected issues.
  6. Potentiometer
    • Adjusts the contrast of the LCD display for better readability.
  7. Resistors
    • Ensures proper current flow and prevents damage to electronic components.
  8. Battery Cap
    • Holds and connects batteries for powering the system.

Working:

  1. Detection:
    • IR sensors detect the presence of children inside the bus by monitoring motion or heat signatures.
  2. Alert System:
    • When a child is detected in the bus after designated times, the system triggers a buzzer and activates the LED lights to alert the driver or supervisor.
  3. Real-Time Display:
    • The LCD display shows information about the number of children detected and system alerts.
  4. Control System:
    • Arduino UNO processes the inputs from the IR sensors and controls the outputs (buzzer, LED, and LCD).
  5. Power Management:
    • The system is powered by a battery pack connected through a battery cap, ensuring portability and ease of use.

Benefits:

  1. Enhanced Safety:
    • Prevents children from being accidentally left behind in the bus, ensuring their safety.
  2. Real-Time Alerts:
    • Immediate notification through visual (LED) and audio (buzzer) signals.
  3. Ease of Use:
    • Simple to operate and monitor with an intuitive LCD display interface.
  4. Cost-Effective:
    • Affordable components make the system accessible for widespread use.
  5. Low Maintenance:
    • Durable and reliable hardware ensures long-term performance with minimal upkeep.
  6. Customizable:
    • The system can be upgraded with additional sensors (e.g., temperature or GPS) for enhanced functionality.
